No person shall be eligible for the office of alderman who is not a qualified elector within the city and who has not resided in the city for a period of not less than six months preceding the election in which he seeks office. If any alderman shall move his residence from the city, his office shall be deemed vacant, and an election shall be ordered to fill the vacancy.
